Specialty of long leg octopus (Octopus dollfusi – Rua��c la��)

As a type of the octopus, but octopus dollfusi is only small as a toe, round head like a guava and it has long legs. Because of these characteristics, fishermen call them with the name of mini octopus or long leg octopus.

Referring to Halong (Quang Ninh), the seafood lovers will be very interested, because here there are countless delicious dishes such as peanut-worm, geoduck, grilled oyster with onions, fresh crabs or dishes from sam (horseshoe crab). Besides, visitors who come here are also introduced by fishermen about octopus dollfusi.

Octopus dollfusi often dig holes, living around the mud. Compared with other places, sea water in Quang Ninh is not too salty, so the octopus dollfusi here is also fresh and delicious. A fresh peanut worm is 7-15 cm long, thick body, but when dry, the body is only 6-10 cm long, fresh worms when cooked is only about 5-7 cm.

Peanut worm is a species with many nutritional values a��a��such as amino acids, glycine, alanine, glutamine, succinic … and many taurine, minerals. Peanut worm foods are organically debris, phytoplankton suspended in water, and nowadays peanut worms are naturally exploited and can not be cultivated. The peanut worms live in sandy beaches with high tides and low tides, they only rise at night to go to feed, mating. Therefore, the digging time is usually early in the morning, when the tide has just withdrawn, people will trace their prints on the sand, then quickly dig the sand layer and eject them out. However, the digging of peanut worm requires technical skill and experience and to recognize the signs of the worm under the sand as well as do not break the body when digging.

In Quang Ninh, peanut worms are concentrated in the sandy beaches of Minh Chau island commune, Quan Van of Van Don district, peanut worms there are also rated as the most delicious with the highest price in the country. Each kilogram of dried peanut worm costs from 3.5 to 4.5 million VND, the closer the holidays are, the higher the price is. This is also a famous place for the digging of the women on the island. People in Quan Lan island often call peanut worm as con ma��i (bait), because of their tough body, sweet and fishy taste. In the past, the fishermen know how to use peanut worm as bait, the name also comes from that.
